April 10, 1928 -- August 10, 2017

Willa Mae Hampton died on August 10th at Edgewood Point Assisted Living in Beaverton. She was 89.

Willa Mae was born in Essex, Iowa to Luther and Nell Lenore Johnson. She grew up in the area and eventually began teaching high school home economics after school and wound up teaching in St. Paul, Minnesota.

She attended Iowa State, where she met Richard Hampton. They married in 1954 and made their way to Prosser, Washington. She ended her teaching career due to the birth of their first child.

In 1963, they moved to Corvallis and Richard worked in Botany and Plant Pathology at Oregon State as an employee of the U. S. Department of Agriculture.

After Richard's retirement, they moved to Idaho in 1995 and stayed until moving back to Oregon in 2015.

Willa Mae enjoyed sewing, was an active church member and volunteered at hospital gift shops in Corvallis and Idaho for nearly 40 years.

She was preceeded in death by Richard in 2016.

Willa Mae is survived by brothers Lynn Johnson of Essex, Iowa and Ray Johnson of Long Beach, California; son Kevin Hampton of Corvallis; daughter Audrey Aiken and son-in-law Ken Aiken of Beaverton; and granddaughter Ciara Gibbons of Beaverton.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, August 18, at Farnstrom Mortuary, 410 Monmouth St., Independence. Please leave condolences at: farnstrommortuary.com
